Changing My Habits
So we're one week in to my journey to change everything. This week I think I'll start talking about my health struggles. Most of you already know about some of them. I'm overweight and have struggled with that since my early 20'. Up and down, again and again. One diet after another off and on for 30 years.
Most recently I started Noom about 8 weeks ago. So far I've lost a whopping 5 pounds. But what's different about it is that its not exactly a diet. No pre-made meals, no shakes, not a lot of measuring - just daily disciple and slowly changing your habits. Its more about giving you lots of information most of which I've come across before but in fairly manageable daily doses. It seems to be pushing eating more healthy and natural foods; and forcing you to think before you eat while using daily weigh in and step targets to keep you focused on the process. So far I've learned to embrace fruit smoothies and turkey chili. I'm still struggling but I am making changes, but still fighting the urge for late night snacking.
I've also got high blood pressure and sometimes forget to take my meds. I've been considering some advice from a friend to try vitamin therapy. I've not really noticed any side affects from my medication, but I don't like being saddled with it for life. So I am looking for alternatives. Also a good reason to drop some weight.
I started meditation last spring, yoga last summer and working with a personal trainer in January. I think its helping but no concrete results yet. Other than that it gives me something to do with my evenings. I'm a little more flexible and a little calmer about my failed marriage. My goal is to do meditation daily; yoga twice a week and strength training twice a week and 10K steps a day 5 days a week. I ask each of you to help hold me accountable by asking me about it.
If I can adopt these habits for the long run, I think the weight and the blood pressure will take care of themselves. I guess we'll see.
