It Starts Today

So here's where we start.  I'm a 54 year old black mother of two mostly grown children, with a great job and a husband who left me six moths ago for some girl he knew in high school.  So everyday I go to work, eat too much and come home to a mostly empty house that I never really liked.  He picked it.

I'm done crying about it and I need to change just about everything in my life.  I need to get healthy, athletic even and gain more professional success; because I still have two kids to send to college.  I also really need to meet new people.  I want to meet people who didn't know us as a couple, people who get to know just me as I am now.  When my son graduates I'd like to leave the state.  I moved here is 1990 to be with him.  So by the end of 2020 I will be more than ready to leave.

This blog is meant to chart my journey and maybe even get some guidance from others who have been on this path.  My philosophy is that I spent a third of my life growing up and getting educated.  I spent a third in this marriage and raising two great kids.  Now I want to spend the next third doing whatever makes me happy and adds joy to my life.

I will document my challenges with children, redecorating, weight loss, my divorce experience and my future attempts at dating.  As I was recently told "I've still got it goin' on and I need to get back out there."  But that can wait.  I will share this link with my network of friends and family who have gotten me this far.  I pray for your continued support and welcome your advice as always.

      I know you don't know this but Neicey was slapped on me on the first day of the fifth grade by Mr. Cozzalino as he was too lazy to learn how to say my name. I never liked it and it followed me through all of high school. I chose Ellie in college after Miss Ellie on Dallas. Cause I thought she was awesome. But these days I generally prefer Eltaneice cause that's the name my mom gave me.

Hoildays Suck

Today is Thanksgiving in the US and its sucks.  My daughter and I are down visiting my sister in Baltimore.  My sister wants to eat at times that clash with feeding regiment and daughter is behaving like a moody teenager even though she's 22.  I've always spoiled that girl.  She's great, early this week she was awesome but she can be so thoughtless and sometimes just insulting. Wrapping Up the Year

Well as the new year dawns I wanted to take a little time to reflect on the changes and accomplishments in my life in 2019.  As I said in my last post, my divorce became final last month, but that just puts a period at the end of that chapter in my life.  All in all its been a pretty good year.  This time last year I was an emotional mess.  Deep in mourning for my very dead marriage and the betrayal I felt.  So twelve months later I can honestly say I feel much better.  I feel I'm on a new path to create a life I love.  As part of that journey I wanted to take look back at the most important things that happened for me in these twelve months. I cut my hair really short and kept it that way.  I know that doesn't sound important but to me it is, it marks a break from the past in a really tangible way.
